This is the 2nd year after a very successful inaugural event in 2024. It will run alongside our Wyedean Relay event but all timing will be independent.
This is suitable for beginners to Ultra Running as well as experienced Ultra Runners.
A beautiful route along the river Wye, on Offas Dyke and the Wye Valley Walk.
Large bespoke medal for all finishers.
Our Wyedean Relay has run now for 6 years. It sees 300+ runners taking part.
The 'ultra' is for individuals wanting to run the entire length, Ross to Chepstow.
Feed stations/checkpoints
At what would be the end of each leg of the relay (or near) there will be a feed station (checkpoint) - food/drinks etc and a timing point.
On each feed station there will be malt loaf piece, biscuits, peanuts, banana half (plus voom energy bars at CP3 Monmouth and CP5 Brockweir. There will be water 'jacks' with taps where you can refill your own bottles at each checkpoint.
At each checkpoint there will be a timing point - simply hold your wrist tag onto the device (like a mobile phone) mounted on a stake. It will emit a loud bleep. You pick up your wrist tag and race number at the the start of Leg 1 in Ross-on-Wye.
Most of these checkpoints are at convenient places with road access, so your own supporters/ helpers can gain access if needed.
The way is well marked with national footpath signs.
Along the way you will encounter and probably overtake the relay event that is going on at the same time. The ultra is, however, a completely separate event with separate marshals and timing. We expect a good atmosphere and support from the relay teams as you progress along the route as they will be gathering to start their leg and support friends finishing other legs.
For rough route maps (we suggest you use your own detailed mapping) and information of each section see here.
Transport to the start from finish (or from finish back to start) is not included in the fee. We are looking into being able to provide one way transport from the finish to the start in 2025. This will be an additional cost (and dependent on numbers). If you need to drop out between legs please make your way as best you can to the end of that leg, where you can retire. The timing device needs to be updated with your status as 'retired', so that we know and can inform the remaining checkpoints.
Sorry - no 4 legged friends allowed on this - some of the trails go through farmland with livestock.
Got any questions? Please just go to the Facebook event and make a reply post.

First aid cover - there will be first aid cover at each checkpoint, but if you need assistance during a leg contact the RO - make your way if you can mover forward to the next checkpoint - DO NOT GO BACK as the checkpoint may have moved on.
If you need to retire - again move forward to the next checkpoint. You can call for assistance there and arrange to be picked up.
Runners kit list:
Mandatory - waterproof full body cover, mobile phone with contact numbers, spare long sleeve thermal top, map or route directions, footwear of choice, food and hydration at runners discretion.
